The Winter Hawks Hockey Academy Program Description

The three levels of the Winter Hawks’ Hockey Academy are:

Junior Step-Up

The Junior Step-Up training program is designed to teach young hockey players the basic fundamentals of hockey, while at the same time equipping them to improve their skill level. It has been designed for players who have played at the Additional Entry (AE), House League Select (HLS) and/or Minor Development (MD) levels of competition. It is a week long program consisting of on-ice and off-ice learning.

Junior Advanced

The Junior Advanced training program is also a one week program and has been designed for players who are currently playing or have played at the Representative ‘A’ and Representative ‘AA’ levels of hockey and want to play at the next level. The curriculum is more focused and demanding in its approach, to that of Junior Step-Up. Players will gain the necessary tools to improve both their on ice and off ice performance and preparation. The purpose is to help them build upon their existing skill-set thereby increasing their overall confidence level and chances for advancement to Representative ‘AAA’ hockey.

Junior Elite

The Junior Elite training program is a one week program as well, and was designed for players who have played at the Representative ‘AAA’ level and want to continue to compete at that level, with the goal of improving their overall performance. It is the most intense and challenging of the 3 levels. It not only focuses on the skills and game strategies associated with hockey, but it is also designed to enhance the mind-set of its participants that they are Elite hockey players. The ultimate goal of this program is to prepare them for the transition from minor hockey to junior hockey, whether it be: Provincial Junior D, C, B, and A or Major Junior.

As a result of established relationships with various colleges participating in the NCAA program, we have a good working knowledge of the requirements for players who want to pursue an education through hockey. As such, for Bantam and Midget ‘AAA’ players who wish to pursue a scholarship through the NCAA progam, the Cambridge Winter Hawks Educational Coordinator can be available, upon request, to interview the player, establish a base-line for their current academic profile and provide recommendations for areas that would require improvement to help them in their preparation.
