Mike Down- Assistant Coach, Defensive Coordinator

Mike Down, a lifelong resident of Cambridge, has been involved in sports his entire life. He played both minor league travel softball and travel hockey. Mike’s sports career also included umpiring softball including Inter-County ball.

After graduating from Wilfrid Laurier, Mike was drawn back into hockey where he began coaching in Preston and was a volunteer with the Preston International Hockey Tournament for several years during which he was a recruiter and coach for the All-Star Game. After purchasing a home in Hespeler in 1997, Mike joined Hespeler Minor Hockey where he continue to coach till 2004 at which point he joined the Mid-Western’s Brantford Golden Eagles. Over the course of 6 seasons with the Eagles, Mike held various positions, including coach, scout, player recruitment, as well holding various management positions. Mike played a key role in the Eagles winning two Cherrey Cup titles and ultimately a Sutherland Cup in the 2008-2009 season.

Mike still resides in Hespeler with his wife Diane, who has put up with him for 24 years. They have 3 children, Christian, Aidan and Makhaila.
